Times Tables at Catherine Junior School
We use Times Tables Rock Stars to support children in practising their times tables at home. Class teachers set specific times tables for each child to practise on a week by week basis.
By the end of Year 2, children should have learnt their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
By the end of Year 3, children should have learnt their 3, 4, 6 and 8 times tables at our school.
By the end of Year 4, children should know all of their times tables up to 12 x 12. In Year 4, children take the national Multiplication Check test.

Multiplication Check
In June, Year 4 children across England will take a statutory times tables test called a Multiplication Check. Click here for more information from the government to explain what the Multiplication Check is and how results are used.
We do not want children to worry about the Multiplication Check but we would appreciate your support in encouraging your child to practise on Times Tables Rock Stars as part of their weekly homework. If you would like to help your child in other ways too, use the times tables website links on this page. Another way to help your child is to practise times tables in order (1 x 4 = 8, 2 x 4 = 12, 3 x 4 = 16) but also in a random order (5 x 4 = 20, 12 x 4 = 48, 8 x 4 = 32). This helps children to recall their times tables quickly – something that is important in the test.
At school, we support children by teaching, practising and testing times tables on a weekly basis. We also test children on a half termly basis to see if they have retained previous learning.
