Arts Mark Updates

Artsmark is a national award, accredited by Arts Council England, that recognises a school’s commitment to providing high-quality arts and cultural education. It supports schools in developing creativity across the curriculum, ensuring that all pupils have access to a rich and inspiring range of artistic experiences, including art, music, drama, and dance.

Schools choose to engage in Artsmark to strengthen their curriculum, raise the profile of the arts, and improve outcomes for pupils. Through the process, schools reflect on their current provision, set clear goals, and work towards embedding creativity throughout school life. This not only enhances pupils’ confidence, wellbeing, and engagement, but also helps them develop important skills such as communication, problem-solving, and self-expression.

Our school has set five key ambitions for our Artsmark journey, all designed to give every pupil the chance to enjoy and succeed in the arts.

First, we want art to be valued and taught with enthusiasm in every class. We will ensure enough time is given to art each year, support teachers with training and resources, and regularly check how well the curriculum is being delivered through pupil feedback and lesson reviews.

Second, we aim to increase participation in the arts. Pupils will have opportunities to take part in competitions, lunchtime and after-school clubs, and community projects. To make this fair for everyone, the school will provide materials where needed so all children can join in.

Third, we want the arts to be part of many subjects across the curriculum, including writing, drama, dance, and photography. Teachers will work together to plan creative opportunities, helping pupils express themselves in different ways.

Fourth, we will create an Arts Council made up of pupils and staff. This group will meet regularly to share ideas, represent pupil voice, and help shape arts activities across the school.

Finally, we will offer regular after-school “art drop-in” sessions for pupils and their families. These will be relaxed, creative workshops where participants can enjoy making art together in a supportive environment.

Through these steps, we hope to inspire creativity, confidence, and a love of the arts in all our pupils
